I hated Wm. Safire for his political views — much like I despised Wm. F. Buckley for the same reason — but both men were intelligent and as skillful with words as trained fencers. If they defeated you politically, at least you could bow to them and their linguistic talents.
Does anyone really believe that Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly belong in the same class?
Gawd, it sounds horrible to be nostalgic for the conservatives of old! But there's something blind, ignorant, and linguistically impregnable about these new conservatives... they're terrifying because they're so cerebrally void....
